The mission and beliefs of the Mountain Lakes School District remain essentially the same with increased emphasis on the importance of preparing students to live as citizens of a global community in a world changing at an ever-accelerating pace. The focus of our efforts continues to be encouraging the educational, emotional, and social well-being of our children. In this endeavor, two subcommittees of this Long Range Educational Plan conducted research and deliberated in the areas of Engaging Curriculum and Sustainable Development.
As a result of the combined efforts of these subcommittees, the Planning Team has identified eight goals in support of our mission and beliefs. To realize these goals, the Planning Team has drafted twenty-five recommendations. Included are recommendations designed to build upon our present curricular model and to ensure that teaching and learning in the Mountain Lakes School District will continue to be dynamic and meaningful.
By 2014, concepts of Sustainability and 21st Century Skills instruction will be deeply integrated into our curriculum and into the daily activities of learning. Professional development opportunities will support staff in understanding these concepts and in implementing instruction to promote authentic learning. We are dedicated to providing optimal learning environments, systems, and procedures conducive to sustainable education.
These recommendations are consistent with our commitment to cultivating a learning environment that prepares students for the challenges of our world today and those of the future and that respects the inherent worth of every individual.
