Nominating Petition for Mountain Lakes School Board Candidates
The Mountain Lakes Board of Education will have four vacancies; (3) three year terms, and (1) one year unexpired term for school board candidates in the upcoming Annual School Election on November 6, 2018.
All interested candidates must file a candidate petition in order for his or her name to appear on the ballot. Petitions are available at the Board of Education office located at 400 Boulevard in Mountain Lakes and must be submitted to the county clerk by 4:00pm on Monday, July 30, 2018.2017-2018 BOARD MEMBERSJoanne Calabria BarkauskasJoanne has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2003. She and her husband, Rich, MLHS Class of 1987, have four children, Richard, MLHS Class of 2015, Matthew, MLHS Class of 2018, Thomas, MLHS Class of 2021 and Emma, MLHS Class of 2024. Joanne has been an educator for the past 20 years, working first as a high school teacher and now currently as a high school guidance counselor at Parsippany Hills High School. Joanne earned an MA in Administration and Educational Leadership from the Rutgers Graduate School of Education and an MsC in Comparative Government from the London School of Economics and Political Science.Lydia Cipriani-SpotoLydia has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2009 with her husband, Glenn Spoto, and their two sons, both of whom attend Mountain Lakes schools. She has served as a member of the borough’s Recreation Commission since 2012, and has volunteered as track and basketball coach for recreation leagues. As a volunteer for the Home and School Association, Lydia has served as Fundraising Chair, Briarcliff Chair, and Wildwood Book Fair chair/co-chair. Before leaving the work force to raise her family, Lydia was a VP of Business Technology at Deutsche Bank’s Private Banking division. She holds a BA from Rutgers College and an MS in Information Systems from New York University.Jack GentulJack has lived in Mountain Lakes since 1983 and currently resides with his wife, Rebecca. All of Jack's children are graduates of Mountain Lakes High School. Jack previously served on the Board of Education for two terms (1999-2005) and in those six years contributed significantly to many renovations and expansions throughout the district. Jack recently retired from the position of Dean of Students at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has earned his B.A. from Binghamton University, M.Ed. from Rutgers University and Ph.D. from New York University. Jack has also been involved with the Community Church of Mountain Lakes as Trustee, Trustee President and Church Council Member At Large.Elena Goldthwaite - Board PresidentElena has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2000. She has three children who are members of the MLHS classes of 2015, 2017 and 2020. Since moving to Mountain Lakes, Elena has spent much of her time as a volunteer for various organizations. She has been actively involved in the Home & School Association in roles such as President, VP Fundraising, Wildwood Chair, Bake Sale Chair and Communications Committee member. For the League of Women Voters she has been Co-President, Membership Chair, Budget Chair, Historian and Study Chair. In addition, Elena has chaired the Medical Needs Foundation Spirit 5K and the Town Club Centennial House Tour. She is currently the Mountain Lakes Girl Scouts registrar and a troop leader for her daughter.James HirschfeldJames has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2003. He and his wife, Laura, have three daughters who are members of MLHS classes of 2021, 2023, and 2028. James practices ophthalmology at Lakeland Ophthalmology in Parsippany, which he founded in 2004. He is a board member of the Morris County Medical Society, and has previously served on the boards of the Lake Drive Foundation and the Medical Needs Foundation. James earned an AB in Economics from Brown University and an MD from NYU School of Medicine, where he also completed his ophthalmology residency.John Kaplan - Board Vice PresidentJohn has lived in Mountain Lakes since 1997 with his wife, Mimi, and two children, who are members of the MLHS classes of 2015 and 2018. John retired in 2012, after a 30-year career in investment banking on Wall Street. Most recently, he served as a Managing Director and head of Morgan Stanley’s Media, Communications, Technology, and Healthcare Debt Capital Markets businesses. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, John held similar positions at Merrill Lynch and Citigroup. John also serves as Chairman of the Borough’s Finance Advisory Committee and Treasurer of Lakers Sports Club. He coached MLBT youth lacrosse for ten years and served as the program’s game and tournament scheduler for the last two years. John graduated from Dartmouth College with an A.B. in Engineering and Environmental Studies.William KoyBill has lived in Mountain Lakes since September 1999. He and his wife Carrie have three children, Tyler (12), Sydney (9) and Brody (6). Bill is a partner at The Law Firm of William Koy, LLP, located in Morristown. His firm specializes in Family, Employment and Education law. Bill has coached travel soccer for the MLBTB for the past five years and he is currently Vice President of the Mountain Lakes Club.Julie ShepherdJulie has been in public relations/marketing for the past 20+ years. She is Managing Director of Accentuate and has managed PR teams for Fortune 500, tech, travel, non-profit and entertainment organizations. She has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2013 and serves on the boards of ML Town Club, Garden Club, and Sailing Association. and is Home & School Association's Box Tops for Education Chair. Before moving to Mountain Lakes she served as a church youth ministries group leader, team manager for youth soccer, HOA president and PTA publicity chair. Julie has a BA in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa.
Lauren Silva McIntyre
Lauren has lived in Mountain Lakes since 2012 with her husband, James, and their three children, ages 6, 5, and 2. She was raised in Mountain Lakes, graduating MLHS in 1998. Lauren earned an A.B. in Economics from Princeton and an M.A. and Ph.D. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Most recently, Lauren was an adjunct professor in International Economics and Latin American Studies at Johns Hopkins SAIS. ADMINISTRATIONDr. Anne Mucci - SuperintendentAnne came to the Mountain Lakes School District in 1995. She has her BA, MA, Ed.S and Ed.D from Seton Hall University. Anne assumed the role of Superintendent in 2011 has worked in all of our schools in various teaching and administrative roles including principal of the high school. Anne and her husband, Ronnie, have lived in Mountain Lakes since 2002. They have 3 children in our school system. Anne serves on all the Board of Education committees.973-334-8280Daniel A. Borgo - Business Administrator/Board SecretaryDan has held the position of Business Administrator in Mountain Lakes since 2006 after holding the same position in the West Essex Regional School District for 16 years. He has a BA from Monmouth University and a Masters Degree from Kean College. He and his wife Robyn live in Randolph, NJ. They have 2 children, Nick, currently employed by PSE&G after graduating from Monmouth University and Erica, currently employed by Time Warner, Inc. after graduating from Yale University.
