Office of the Superintendent
To the Mountain Lakes Community,
It is my distinct honor and privilege to join the Mountain Lakes School District as the Superintendent of Schools on July 1, 2024. This role carries tremendous responsibility to lead a distinguished educational community toward sustained learning, growth, and development for all of our students. My twenty six years as a career educator began as a high school social studies teacher at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. Making the transition to school leadership, I held roles as a K-12 Social Studies Supervisor at Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District and K-12 Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at the Northern Highlands Regional School District (NHRHS, Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, and Upper Saddle River School Districts). For the past six years, I was Superintendent of the Upper Saddle River School District, where I gained invaluable experience as Chief School Administrator. In each setting, I acquired many important skills and gained pertinent knowledge to guide a district through the complex landscape of educational decision-making. While my perspective is always open and changing, I am proud that my orienting framework remains as a lifelong commitment to serve all students on their educational journeys. To get there, I look forward to serving you as a humble, positive, and caring Superintendent.
Joining Mountain Lakes, I recognize the importance of sustaining an elite public school district in which our Board of Education, staff members, families, and students prioritize education. That high expectation is what motivates and excites me stepping into this role. Additionally, I appreciate the special and unique qualities of being part of a "lake" community, as I grew up and now raise my family in a different "lake" community (Pines Lake in Wayne). Over the past few months, I had the opportunity to meet many stakeholders from the Mountain Lakes School District at scheduled meetings and even through some unexpected encounters. Both of these qualities consistently marked these interactions - the drive for learning and connection to the community.
The summer months bring the hard work of setting a course for the next school year. For me, I will have the added challenge of getting to know the systems, processes, and community that make this district exemplary. Together with the Board of Education and school leadership team, we will establish our goals and priorities for the 2024-25 school year. It is my responsibility to continue a strong path forward and seek improvements where needed. You can expect a Superintendent that seeks to know his students, staff, and families, but I understand that will take some time. In the meantime, I hope you have the opportunity to enjoy a summer of enjoyment, exploration, and fulfillment.
Sincerely,
Brad Siegel, Ed.D.
